Happy New Year

Glad to see the end coming.  This is not my favourite time of the year. My psychiatrist who follows me on this blog says he sees a resentment in my writing.  I wonder why?  .......leave it to him to figure out.

I am really fascinated by the fact that still photography is thriving in today's electronic environment.   I was a professional video cameraman and an amateur still photographer and went to many classes and seminars,  yes there is a cross over but we seemed to think we were the ones on the cutting edge.  I now think we were wrong. Cameras on smart phone's both still and video are amazing.  Video offered on DSLR (such as the Cannon Rebel Series) would really make one wonder as a family with children if you needed much more than they offer.   And the quality of the images being produced is nothing short of awe inspiring.

Allow me to make one point and by no means is it original, people take good pictures not camera's.  Believe me I have been on the receiving end of this lesson far to many times.  It is like telling a chef after a great dinner, man those pots did a great job.

So Happy New Year.  And remember if you go to bed on the 31st an asshole you will probably wake up on the 1st as one.   Fact of life!

Is that a resentment?  ...............

For whatever reason I use to be much better at handling the cold, old age comes to mind.   Now I just stand and physically shiver, I honestly think I prefer the rain if just for the fact that means it is to warm to snow.  Looks like we will see some snow before this spell is over, Vancouver always goes nuts when it does.

I have a friend in Australia who has been rubbing in the warm weather from down under.

Have another who is down in the States,  just outside of Tucson I believe, thought about them both as I shivered away at the bus stop today.  Had to have a laugh as I looked down at the boots with the salt stains they are made in Australia.   Best boots I have ever owned.

    Hard to Write

I have trouble sometimes getting worked up to write. I know that once it is finished I feel much better, but still I struggle to get started. I read a lot of blogs and stuff and sometimes I am amazed at how long some people can go on about what I consider nothing. Internet diaherra, it does exist. It is important sometimes to save something as a draft....wait a day and then go what if any relevance to anyone does that have. So much of what i read is regurtated crap, guilty of it myself. Saw two things that really effected me this week, one was Jack Monroe passsing away, he was truly one of the greatest. And then I did a really dumb thing I clicked on something on Facebook which I really wish I had not. I have added a photo, it is on an air conditioner intake, art is sometimes where you least expect it. So is common sense. God bless Stainless Steel.

I have always been fascinated by aircraft. When I was shooting News the annual Abbotsford Airshow was always a prime shoot. Obviously the flight demonstrations like the Snowbirds, Blue Angels and the various aircraft performances were amazing and thrilling but one of my biggest thrills was going on board the Antonov An-124, the largest heavy lift military, and currently the third largest aircraft in the world I was thrilled, it was on static display and huge (I later got to shoot it taking off)to get to the cockpit you went up spiral staircase and when you looked back towards the tail it was awe inspiring. The Soviet Union was still in existence so it was flagged as such, the aircraft is built in what now is the Ukraine.
In the past Canada has had to lease these planes to transport our military team DART (Disaster Assistance Response Team) to the far reaches of the planet. Rather embarrassing and expensive. The government purchased four C-17's Globemaster III (in the Canadian Forces they are designated CC-177), from Boeing Aircraft and on 16 June 2007, the first Canadian C-17 rolled off the assembly line at Boeing Aircraft plant in Long Beach, California. They have been one of the best purchases by our military in many years and with little of the controversy of many of our other purchases as we had been embarrassed in Haiti by inability to deliver on our own our much vaunted DART team. To illustrate the power of these aircraft, one C-17 can haul three CH-146 Griffon helicopters with refueling tanks, or one Leopard 2 tank, or as many as 102 paratroopers. It will take two flights to send our commitment of six helicopters. It is because of these aircraft we have been able to react to the crisis in the Philippines in a timely fashion. There is not much sense in having a DART team and not be able to move it. While military spending is always controversial, this is a prime example of why it is necessary. It is with pride that I watch Canada respond to this disaster in the way we have and I hope the public thinks about why it is possible for us to do our part and above our part. I believe we have to have a military and that it should be reasonably equiped.

    West Coast Express

What a totally cool way to commute.

Stayed at my mom's place, short walk to Hanney Place bus loop to catch the 701/Coquitlam Centre, it is 0526. Don't doddle getting on this bus it doesn't sit at the stop very long.  To Maple Meadows exchange to catch the 0550 which started it's journey in Mission at 0525 this is stop #3.  Had time to grab a 24hr newspaper, if you can call it that.  Had it read by the time the train arrived, about five minutes.  Coffee you can buy on board.

Comfortable seating, some with table and power some with just power, some just seats.  Double decked but kind of 3 floors the way it layed out.  Lots of seats available as I said this is only stop 3 of 7.

Why so early?  Have to be in North Van for a meeting at 0800.  Now I could have caught the next train but it would have left me with only a ten minute window to catch the Seabus and I like to grab a java at Starbucks at Waterfront Station.

I have had time to check both the Sun and the Province, caught at least one radio and one tv newscast and grabbed a cat nap.  Most relaxing commute on the Lower Mainland.

    Try it out one day.

For all you want to be writers

I like to read and I dabble at writing.  When I read what I write later I am often shocked and surprised.   What was I thinking?  I can say the same of this article.

    What were they thinking?

    November 11

My Grandfather's (whom I was named after)Attestatsion Papers (sign-up), he came back minus a leg and lived in New Westminster. Worked at the Post Office until his retirement and was a posted as a guard on the Patullo bridge (which had been constructed 1936-37)during the Second World War. God Bless.

Another boring day in Vancouver, our mayor is riding around somewhere in Point Grey trying to find a new bicycle... lane while sipping some of Seattle's finest wondering to himself why the City Manager allowed someone to hire a Hell's Angel to take the garbage out.

Could be worse.  Could be Toronto.

Rob Ford for Senator.   Now that Duffy is out it would provide balance.  At least we know he wasn't fudging on his place of residence......a crack house on the Danforth.

I wonder if Bell is looking at their two former employees expense accounts.  Probably not.  To busy fucking me on my cell phone bill.

    Lucinda Williams

    How did I miss this?

One of my favorite things, had one of the first ones with the blue plastic design.  Not sure, and not proclaiming to be a business expert but as in most high tech, the future is uncertain but the end is always near.

Be a bit of a miracle if they can survive.

    Oh Canada!

I kinda of liked it better when you ate fruit rather than talked into it.

Due you remember all  of yours?

In a world where I have difficulty remembering my own phone number.

They (and whoever they are) keep adding more and more of them.  Then to make things even more confusing they set rules like, must have at least one capital letter, no consecutive letters or numbers, must press key with thumb stuck up your ass, (I am good at that one).

I spent an hour yesterday trying to add a bill for payment. The bank directed me where to find the account #.  WRONG, you have to use a different one.  No where to be found on the paper bill, but wait, it gets better you now have to provide yet another password to complete.

Edward Snowden,  NSA, kid down the road.  Come and get me, hack away at my bank account which has a bad habit of having a- sign in front of the figure.

I am going to keep my finances in my pocket,  that way I will know why they are always balled up.

    Wait a minute

Took this photo on a really bad day.  Obviously I have worked with the image.

But as in one of my favorite songs...Every Picture tells a story don't it.

    Rainbow Roses

I saw them, looked thought the were fake but had to take another look.  No they were sitting in in a vase with water in it and with a closer look they had to be real as the petals had some imperfections.  Had to go in and ask the florist, no not genetic engineering just some strong dye in the water in the vase.  I kind of like them.  Get people talking if nothing else.

Great day weather wise as we are now into this Thanksgiving long weekend.   This is my favorite time of the year, cold, crisp mornings the trees take on amaziing color as they lose their leaves.

Went for a bike ride, first decent one I have done in awhile, much huffing and puffing.  Happy Thanksgiving and remember why we celebrate such a day.

My computer is getting to be a bit of a senior citizen (Sony Vaio Laptop) so I started looking around at a possible replacement. Questioning if I really even needed to go the the Laptop route or go with a tablet, and keep using this old girl for my word processing etc. Intresting debate as the vast majority of my use now is email and web surfing apparently Laptop sales are way down.
Looked also at a Chromebook, price is right.
    Which way to go?

Attended a Show and Shine in Maple Ridge yesterday evening.  Made me realise how beautiful some of Detroit's senior citizens really are.
