Christmas

 F

My favorite movie of all time,  this is the trailer.  I am not going to be as gassy as some of my more literary friends but her is something to think about......Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past
misfortunes of which all men have some.
--Charles Dickens

And a great quote to remember over the Holiday Season

Instant Karma - John lennon

Do not know why, but after last week this song came to mind.  Walked with my daughter a couple of weeks ago and she mentioned Karma in the conversation.  Released in 1970 I am not sure if she has ever even heard this song, but it came to mind.  Maybe we should all remember an other victum of a mindless assassins bullet.

Fall

Our fantastic weather seems to be coming to an end.  I think Fall is my favourite time of the year, the crispness in the air in the morning tends to shake out the cobwebs and you are not so tired of the rain that you can honestly say you find it refreshing.

Settling into the new digs, but realizing that I have an incredible amount of stuff that I need, short of about everything including money as i wait patiently (not) for my damage deposit from my old place, a phone call may be order on Tuesday.  Oh well, good things usually take a little time.  Horseshoe Bay is a fantastic place to take a stroll, I find it very peaceful here.

Lots of birds, the Jays are very brash.  I have been trying to get a decent shot of the hummingbird that is around but haven't got one I am happy with yet.

Going to a pancake breakfast in North Van and then a Thanksgiving Dinner this evening....exercise tomorrow.  Life is good.

New Digs

Woke up this morning with the strong smell of a new, cheap, shower curtain, vinyl has a definite smell when let out of the bag.  Just let the man from Shaw out after he set up my Internet, my newest addiction the internet.

New Digs.  A new hood, could not be happier, I have been in some dark places this is a big step in the right direction.  They roll up the carpet here pretty early, fine by me I like an early night.  Bus service is good. Time to kick things up a notch and start to live a normal life.  Went out last night and took a few shots.

Think I will like living here.

Mental Health

I have a crazy family.  I think if we all are honest, we all do.  I am currently receiving professional help in this department, but I in no means have a monopoly on this.

I was fortunate to have two sister's as I was supposedly growing up, actually they were half sister's on my mothers side which I never new till a drunken aunt revealed this when I was about 13.  Both of my sister's were quite a bit older than me and as such I grew up a lot as a only child.

Why am I writhing this well .....I heard a Credence Clearwater Revival song on the radio and I remember that was the first concert that I ever saw.  It was at the Coliseum and my mom and dad, and myself had come down to Vancouver for some reason,  both my sister's were living here attending school.  They took me to the concert.

Now so what, except that you had the great privilege to see John Fogarty in his prime.  Believe me I remember it.

But here is the weird part, I remember the warm up act even more.  A keyboard player and a drummer.  that was it.  They played for about 30 minutes, in which there was a drum solo.  Now I am not a big fan of drum solo's but this guy did part of it with his head, which to an 11 yr. old was to cool.

This is what I found on  the net, it was the song but not the solo.

Lee Michael and the drummer was Frosty.

The Urinal

So yes, this is a truly great photo and I wish some hotel or bar in Vancouver would have the ....shall I say...."balls"  to decorate their facilities in .  Measuring up, what a concept and believe me something every man spends time considering.  The gentleman in the photo is practising  humility, a so called noble cause.

Think back to the famous Seinfeld episode when George was caught nude after swimming and referred to shrinkage.  Cold water has produced this occurrence in every man, wither (sic) he admits it or not.

So I really did have a laugh when I saw the photo, not sure if I could actually go with some of the ladies looking down on me.   We all don't measure up. :)

Scotland

So next Thursday voters in Scotland go to the polls, not really a lot being reported around our parts as we stare at our navel's and our ongoing teacher strike.  In the big scheme of things this may be a much bigger story.  Yes, I know a lot of you will be pushing delete or return or what the fuck ever because the vote in Scotland doesn't effect your nice little life as much as caring for little John or Barb and the unavailability of having the option of dropping them off at a government funded daycare.  But you know what....perhaps you should dummy up a bit on the issue.

First and foremost I am in no way an expert,  but I do have to laugh a bit and in someways see some irony in the issue.  I was in Scotland once or so I am told.  Left London on the Flying Scotsman Train arrived in Glasgow pissed as a newt left a week or so later in the exact same condition.  Was travelling with a friend of Scottish decent, I never held it against him, he and his brother were and still are "oatmeal savages" of the highest repute.  Never understood a word that was spoken the whole time I was there especially in Glasgow, not sure if that was because of the alcoholic buzz or just because, they talk like they have a mouth full of marbles. It still amazes me that after 20 years in Canada Scots still have an accent.  And then to make me a better expert on the Scots I dated a young lady from a town just outside Glasgow,  oh ya and Rod Stewart is my favourite male singer and the lady I dated was Maggie (Margret actually but artistic license takes precedence)

Hagas god help us all,  but consider it as their Maple Syrup,  ah ....maybe not and it could never stand up to Poutine.  But you know what think about it a bit, Vancouver has a huge Scottish connection, we as Canadians know what separation as an issue is all about, give it some thought, take some time.

I am thinking about this vote.  I do not have a real side to stand on......do I want some syrup with that
waffle...probably.

Mel for Prime Minister.  And could I spend a weekend at Balmoral??????????

Mexican Tall Ship

The Mexican Navy's Tall Ship Cuahtemoc docked at North Vancouver's Burrard dry dock pier.

Maiden Head

Cuauhtémoc (Nahuatl pronunciation: /kʷaːʍˈtemoːk/About this sound kwauˈtemok  also known as CuauhtemotzinGuatimozin orGuatemoc; c. 1495) was the Aztec ruler (tlatoani) of Tenochtitlan from 1520 to 1521. The name Cuāuhtemōc means "One That Has Descended Like an Eagle", commonly rendered in English as "Descending Eagle" as in the moment when an eagle folds its wings and plummets down to strike its prey, so this is a name that implies aggressiveness and determination.
Cuauhtémoc took power in 1520 as successor of Cuitláhuac and was a cousin of the former emperor Moctezuma II. His young wife, who would later be known as Isabel Moctezuma, was one of Moctezuma's daughters. He ascended to the throne when he was 25 years of age, as his city was being besieged by the Spanish and devastated by an epidemic of smallpox brought to the New World by Spanish invaders. Probably after the killings in the main temple, there were few Aztec captains available to take the position.

ARM Cuauhtémoc is a sail training vessel of the Mexican Navy, named for the last Mexica Hueyi Tlatoani Cuauhtémoc who was captured and executed in 1525.
She is the last of four sister ships built by the Naval Shipyards of BilbaoSpain, in 1982, all built to a design similar to the 1930 designs of the German firm Blohm & Voss, like Gorch FockUSCGC Eagle and the NRP Sagres.
Like her sister ships, the Colombia's Gloria, Ecuador's Guayas and Venezuela's Simón BolívarCuauhtémoc is a sailing ambassador for her home country and a frequent visitor to world ports, having sailed over 400,000 nautical miles (700,000 km) in her 23 years of service, with appearances at the Cutty Sark Tall Ships' RacesASTA Tall Ships Challenges, Sail Osaka, and others.

Flash

                                                              Now that's a Flash!

This did not lend itself very well to street photography.  Built by Leica and sold to the U.S. Army Corp. and U.S. Navy just before Pearl Harbour.  Sales obviously dropped after that but came back after the war, this one tagged 1950.  Love to own it but looks kind of unwieldy.

This is the Kiev made in the Ukraine (U.S.S.R.) after the war.  A Leica knock off.

This is the Kwanon which is celebrating it's 80th birthday this year.  1934 and I am not kidding about the name.

The Hansa Canon, produced in cooperation with Nippon Kogaku K.K. (present day Nikon), was released two years after the Kwanon prototype

The Fuji X30 today.  With the upswing of mirror less camera's the more things change the more they stay the same.

Something Wrong

There is something wrong here.  Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has promised to up military spending by 3 billion dollars, reequipping the armed forces .  He made the announcement while watching a military parade that probably had more hardware in it than the entire Canadian Forces have.  This while in the east of the country they are in the middle of a civil war, and his own military is complaining about not having enough equipment.

People this whole situation sucks.  Now I am not a fan of "Mad Vlad" but this guy is also crazy.  There economy is in a total shambles, they are in a total mess because of rampant corruption, got there hand out to everybody in the world and he is going to spend 3 billion on his military.   Oh and excuse me.  While his own people on both sides of the political spectrum are dying he decides to throw a parade, not just any parade, but a Military Parade.

Our own Prime Minister should be having a real hard look at what is going on here as we keeping notching up the aid, a person more cynical then myself might suggest this is due to the the large ethnic Ukrainian vote but far be it from me.

And with respect to the Russian"aid" trucks crossing the border on their own provision,  how long would the Americans sat there waiting in that situation, against International Law, ask the poor Grenadian about the US and International Law.

The West needs to grow up, the whole world will never have the kind of democracy that we have and we should stop trying to force it upon them, yes freedom, justice and equality should be available to all people but it takes a lot of time, South Korea is a good example of this.  You just have to look at Iraq  and the rest of the Middle East to see what a mess can come about with the heavy hand of the west.

Things are going to hell in a hand basket.....Let's though a parade.

Orcas in Active Pass, 8:45 am Aug 22 2014

Wonderful footage of Orca's going through Active Pass, I would think on the way to the Fraser to feast on the Sockeye which are there now in huge numbers.  Luckily the one big one after taking a good look from very near realizes that the woman taking pictures from the rocks below is not a seal and carries on.

Visiting a sick friend.

Went to see an old friend that has been diagnosed with cancer today,  apparently she had been in better shape yesterday but may have over exerted herself.  Got the usual welcome although, somewhat restrained. I was hoping to take her out for a walk and enjoy some of our beautiful weather but she wasn't up to it.  Couldn't help but feel a little sad.  Cancer Sucks where and whenever it strikes.

Gilbert

Went sailing yesterday with my friend Captain Bill, he has a very nice first mate named Gilbert who wears a life jacket when on the boat which I never really thought about for dogs, I am not sure if Gilbert likes it but it does make a lot of sense.  My daughter has a beautiful Lab who are water dogs, I think Gilbert is a Cockapoo but no matter what if the dog gets off the boat a couple of kilometres out, they can not swim that far and recovering an  animal  in that kind of situation is at best difficult.

Bill is very proactive with respect to safety and he has had a lot of experience.  It is something we need to remind ourselves about even in our recreational activities.

Anyways enough of the preaching bullshit.  Met some nice people, ......awe fuck the bullshit gave out a couple of phone numbers.  :}  Ring....................................................................?  Hello.  The party to whom you are speaking is not really here.

House Sitting

Given an opportunity to spend some time with some people and animals that have grown up with me and me with them that I love the last week or so.   House sitting.  Not always as easy as it sounds especially when you have been alone for a while and the house in question has more floral fauna then a florist shop and we are experiencing a hot spell.  Two young ladies one my daughter and the other one my god daughter and Chelsea's sister who is just turning nineteen, a birthday party, add to the mix including two borders, one from Switzerland and one from Japan and a 22 year old cat and things can become interesting in a hurry.

But getting through in spite of being up till 4 with a bunch of 19 year olds, there was a time.....long gone, I guess....shit  My God daughters 19th

Anyways the Fire Department say the building structure can probably be saved the police have gone without laying any charges I guess everything is good.

Funny how things change.

Gob Bless

Insomnia

Suffer from it quite often, tired at six awake at twelve fall asleep at three up at five.  Kind of disturbs your life.  So people that get a good night sleep probably don't have a lot of knowledge about this guy and his show and the fact that it is about to end.

Craig Ferguson  and the Late Late Show one of the most entertaining shows on the "Boob Tube" going to miss him.
